CGI LEADS THE CHARGE

Increase in Tested Fireswiss Foam Sizes

Leading glass manufacturer CGI International has launched ten new tested sizes and applications of its Fireswiss Foam fully insulating fire rated glass.

The new products mark the latest milestone in the Haydock-based business’ drive to meet the challenges of modern building design and architects’ demands. It follows the firm’s investment of more than Ł200,000 in a new state of the art R&D laboratory and a the appointment of specialist polymer chemist, Dr Vincent Crook.

The most significant additions to CGI’s new tested size certification are the ability to offer Fireswiss Foam in Insulating Glass Units (IGUs) in larger sizes of 1750mm x 3100mm, for 60 minutes integrity and insulation (60/60) in timber and steel screens. In single glazed options for timber screens of 60 minutes integrity and 30 minutes insulation (60/30), CGI has a certified maximum size of 1500 mm x 2500mm. This covers both internal and external applications, glass sizes in both single-glazed and IGUs are now possible in excess of three metres high, making the installation of full-height glazed partitions possible.

CGI’s Sales Director, Steve Goodburn commented: “Larger tested sizes will enable fire glass to be specified more widely. Glass walls, partitions and walkways are becoming more commonplace and we now have a fire-rated glass to meet that need”.

“We’re working hard to improve the perception of fire glass amongst architects and get rid of out-dated ‘glass is just glass’ attitudes. Our new tested applications prove how flexible fire safety glass is to work with and how it can enhance design, maximise safety and meet legislative requirements”.

Steve concluded: “Fireswiss Foam is a high quality product and its technical performance has been enhanced even further with these developments in tested size which makes it an even more attractive proposition for our stockists.”

The tests were carried out to the European fire resistance test standard EN1364 part1 and have been verified and incorporated into the Warrington Certification scheme CERTIFIRE in the certificate CF437.
